Announcement: Call For Papers

The Organising Committee of the 13th Biennial Meeting of Fields of Conflict is pleased to announce the Call for Papers for the International Conference in Conflict Archaeology, to be held at the University of Glasgow in September 2026.

We invite submissions for 15-minute oral presentations that address any aspect of the material, spatial, and experiential remains of group-based violence. Papers may draw on case studies from any geographic region and any period, from prehistory to the modern day. The conference language is English, and preference will be given to papers presented in person.

Submission deadline: 09:00 UTC, Monday 30 March 2026

We look forward to welcoming a diverse range of papers and participants to Glasgow!

Call for Sessions Complete!

We are pleased to announce that our soft opening for Fields of Conflict 2026 has been a great success.

Our Call for Sessions, which we quietly announced on December 18th 2026 is now officially closed to public submissions. Despite the low-key nature of our announcement, we have been overwhelmed by the fantastic response from the community.

We have received a number of exciting proposals covering a variety of topics. From the osteoarchaeology of conflict, to experimental archaeology, and the archaeology of protest/civil disobedience. We’re also delighted by the international nature of the submissions. Which cover conflict across multiple eras from a wide array of geographic locations, including Europe, North America, South-East Asia and the Indian Subcontinent.

The organising committee now faces the difficult decision of which of these many sessions to include in our final programme.

In the meantime we look forward to the announcement of our general Call for Papers, which has already generated significant interest from the community and which we expect to produce an even greater response than we have received in our Call for Sessions.
